About Amelia Doma

Amelia Doma is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and completed her Master’s in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Child & Youth Studies and Sociology with a Minor in Criminology. Amelia completed a post-graduate diploma in Early Childhood Education.

Amelia is passionate about helping adults, teenagers, and youth (11+) struggling with anxiety, depression, body image, and codependency. Prior to joining MyLife, she completed her internship at the Georgetown Counselling Centre where she worked closely with families and youth through a variety of emotional and relationship challenges.

Amelia knows first-hand what it is like to be a client as a youth and as an adult. Living with high-functioning anxiety, Amelia has gained insight through personal psychotherapy by increasing her ability to support herself and/or to ask for support when needed. She strives to help her clients feel as safe, supported, and understood as she has felt in her own healing journey.

Amelia’s volunteer experience includes mentoring adolescents and families at Big Brother Big Sisters. She helped a variety of individuals grow comfortable in their own bodies by offering support for anxiety, body image, self-esteem, depression, and early onset for disordered eating. In addition, Amelia continues to volunteer as a crisis line worker with Distress Centre Halton for suicide risk prevention. She supports people in the community to better cope with crisis, loneliness, and emotional stress.

Amelia is warm, kind, and non-judgemental in her interactions with others. She is not only highly empathetic, but understands that each individual’s path to developing self-acceptance is as unique as the individual seeking therapy. Humanistic in her approach, Amelia draws from a variety of evidence-based approaches including Narrative therapy, Gestalt Therapy, person-centered therapy, various mindfulness-based therapies, as well as CBT and DBT. As an avid learner, Amelia aspires to receive up-to-date training in Gottman Methods Couples Therapy, Play Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.

In her free time, Amelia thoroughly enjoys reading novels of all kinds, gardening, skiing, and practicing yoga. New to the Guelph area, Amelia loves spending time outdoors by hiking and biking with her partner. Her creative outlet currently is “Do-It-Yourself” interior design projects.
