About Melissa Malcolm
We are excited to welcome Melissa Malcolm as one of our caring and hard working interns at MyLife Counselling. Melissa completed her Bachelor of Art’s in Psychology at the University of Waterloo with distinction and recently completed her Master’s in Counselling Psychology coursework through Yorkville University. She is now completing her internship at MyLife Counselling under the supervision of our Clinical Director Mark Nixon. Melissa provides counselling to individual adults and couples at a reduced rate to help make counselling more accessible to people in the community.
Melissa has a warm, friendly, and inviting presence that puts her clients at ease. Not only is she extremely empathetic, she is also an avid learner and has received up-to-date training in the latest evidence based treatments such as: Level 1 Cognitive Behavioural Therapy through Wilfred Laurier University, Cognitive Processing Therapy Training through the Medical University of South Carolina, and Level 1 Training in Gottman Methods Couples Therapy.
Melissa brings extensive personal and mental health experience helping people from all walks of life. As an intake counsellor at Homewood Health in Guelph, she works closely with a variety of individuals seeking counselling and support for addictions, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Melissa also volunteers at the Grand River Hospital Inpatient Mental Health unit where she works closely with a team of healthcare professionals and facilitates recreation programs in support of patients and their families. As a person living with a chronic illness, she also draws from her personal experience in helping people balance their emotional and physical health.
Outside the office, Melissa has enjoyed teaching swimming lessons to people of all ages and abilities as a swim instructor with the Township of Woolwich. In her free time, she also enjoys acting as a Cambridge Ringette Association Referee and playing goalie!
